Bush Monsters!

So I've had this idea for a while but have just never executed it... Bush Monsters, street art for the bushes.

Instead of making street art for the urban setting, which i really don't live it, these bush monsters are created for the suburban or even rural areas.

They are made of wood and will be nailed to stakes which will then be set in high grass or behind bushes. This way they will look like they live there and are just popping their head up to see what's going on.

I'm still painting these but once i'm done, I'll take them outside and cut them out. Then i'll shellack them before setting them free.

Facebook Cards : A Trial Run

I thought it might be cool to create baseball like cards using random status I see on Facebook.

I stole each of these quotes that one of my "friends" used as a status and then I created a litte illustration to go with each one. These are just test cards to se if I like the idea.

I quickly created the illustrations in Photoshop but if I pursue the idea, I would possibly paint the illustration first and scan them into the computer. Other plans might include creating an entire set of cards and releasing them like I do my Critters.

What do you think??

Block Gallery

Opening Thursday, February 2, 5-7 p.m. at Block Gallery (222 West Hargett St.)

Wild Life presents a vibrant and evolving look at our world, engaging viewers through interactive elements, anthropomorphic animals, humor and the science of the natural world.

Block Gallery features paintings by Keith Norval, mixed media works by Ian Sands and glass work by Teddy Devereux. Airing at Block2 (133 Fayetteville St.) is Sermon to the Birds by Jeff Whetstone, reflecting on the original purpose of St. Francis' sermon - which sparked a new consideration of the natural world in both religious and secular realms - and the meaning that these words hold for current society.
