Robot: A Repost

I spent most of today finishing last week’s Illustration Friday word, spotted. So I thought I might cheat a little this week and repost for Robot.

I think I can get away with this because if you haven’t been to the The Metal Marble website, you are in for a treat. I would like to recommend you stop by The Crab & Grab restaurant and create your own menu!

The Metal Marble is the story of Tucker and his cousin Trist who find a metal marble floating in the ocean. The metal marble opens with an explosion of green slime. What hatches from the marble is a half real, half robotic wind-up sea turtle.
Spotted

Illustration Friday word, Spotted, the final version. It took me a little longer this week. Everyone else is already on this week’s illustration, Robot. Hey everyone, wait for me!

Spotted

A few weeks ago I took my sketch book to the zoo. I knew I wanted to work with the sketches and create a painting. The hold up, I just couldn’t picture an illustration with a buffalo. It seemed sort of boring. Then I saw this week’s Illustration Friday word, Spotted, and thought, well that works.

This is one of the sketches from the zoo. It’s not so wonderful but really, who knew those stinken buffalo move so often. I thought for sure that a buffalo would just stand still.

This is the sketch for the painting.

This is the first layer of paint. Next, I'll work in some black outline and them it's on to the scribbles.

Speed

Took my sketchbook to the beach and did some life drawing. For this week’s Illustration Friday word, Speed, I though these two images fit.

The black-headed gull has some speed. They really don’t hold still. This one stopped for a moment, at least long enough for me to do this quick sketch. I kept them around with a few handfuls of Cheetos.

After the Cheetos were gone, I smarted up and went with something with a little less speed. This shell sat still and quiet and didn’t seem to mind at all that I was sketching him.

Baby Musk Turtle

My baby musk turtle came today. Isn’t he just the cutest thing? He’s really small, about the size of a half dollar. Musk turtles don’t get very big, only about 4 or 5 inches when full grown.

So now if I want to do another musk turtle painting, all I have to do is ask my baby musk turtle to pose for me.

Spring

For this week’s Illustration Friday word, spring, I finished the musk turtle painting I've been thinking about finishing for a while now.

Poor little stinkpot. Can't find a spot of the log cause all those painted turtles took the good spots.

Spring

Turtles sunning on a log are a sure sign of this week’s Illustration Friday word, spring. It’s also a good excuse for me to finish this musk turtle painting I have been working on for about four weeks.

Or maybe that’s not fair. I haven’t been working on it, rather it has been sitting on my desk. I kept getting side tracked with other words like monster and feet :P

This is just the first coat, the under painting. I still have a lot of work to go but I figured while the paint was drying, I could post.

And this is the second layer of paint.
