No Worries for the Little Musk Turtle

This is my second attempt, playing with photoshop brushes. I incorporated one of my sketches (the turtle) instead of using a photograph like I did with the giraffe.

Even though the actual composition only took about an hour to arrange, there was a lot of prep work. I started by scanning a wallpaper sample and then used it as a background texture.

Next, I splattered some tempera paint on a white sheet of drawing paper and scanned it as well. In PhotoShop, I placed the paint splat on top of the wall paper then changed the mode from normal to difference.

Here is when I added some of my exciting custom flower brushes. It took a long time to cut out those silly flowers so I'm going to keep using them in every project till I get my fill ;)

The musk turtle is from an older painting but I always thought it was cool. So I cut him out and added a drop shadow so he'd pop off the pages a little bit.

For the final step, I pulled out one of the new Wacom tablets we bought for the Computer Art and Animation class and did what I do best, scribbled. (which by the way, is part of a new art movement as stated by my Art History class... Scribblism. )

Something tells me i should stop my art history lessons before i get to the lesson on Christo.

See more shots of my wrapped jeep on the Apex Art blog.

In my art history class, we've been looking at street art and in particular hitchhikers. This is one I liked in particular by the artist Beckeez.

Turtle Brushes

Stopped by a zoo this weekend and took some photos of wild animals.

This little turtle walked right up to me so I snapped his photo. I thought he might make a cool PhotoShop brush.

Mr. turtle is now two different brushes. One regular turtle and one inverse turtle.

I thought it might be also be cool to use my new turtle brush to replace the spots on this giraffe. This is still a work in progress but here is what I have so far. More tomorrow...

Paint Splats!

This is my example from a computer graphics project I had the students complete in our Computer Art & Animation class. The assignment was to photo something from three angles, manipulate the colors using either an analogous or a complimentary color scheme, and then ad paint splats.

Filming the paint splats was the most fun because we went outside and tossed paint around.

you can check out some of the students work on our Apex Art blog.

Where Have I Been??

Busy!! Sure, the regular stuff like work, home and making sure the lawn is cut so the HOA doesn't send me another nasty gram ;) But also a lot of extra curricular activities. Here is my top 5 list:

1. Spent last weekend on a deacons retreat at the beach. I've never been on a deacons retreat and I might say, it was pretty cool spending time with the people that lead our church. We talked a lot about direction and came up with some very cool ideas and had a great time in between despite the lack of sleep. (I'm third from the left. I know , I need a hair cut!)

2. I've been talking with the folks down at the Apex Cultural Arts center and I can't spill the beans just yet but there might be an art show coming in the Fall. How very exciting!!

3. The Weevils have picked me up as their goalie for the summer season!! How very smart of them :) I'm looking forward to standing on the ice between the pipes again. More details coming soon.

4. My old stomping ground, TeleHealth, has been throwing me a lot of freelance work. Talks continue for a summer position designing the interface for their new top secrete project. Shussss, you didn't hear it here!!!

5. I got a new pond for the backyard. Planted seed, waiting for the flowers to grow.
