What I Did On My (so called) Summer Vacation

Stand back people. don't get to close to the monitor. I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself after I reveal the excitement which is my old life, that of button maker extraordinaire!

Oh sure, some people might have called me a GUI designer... but watch how fast someone's eyes glaze over when your at a party and they ask what you do for a living..

"I'm a GUI designer."
"What's that?"
"Well, I design the interfaces for my company's internal system applications and.."
"Excuse me, I have to go over here now..."

So instead, I told people I made buttons. Which was true, short and usually ended with the other person saying, "Oh." Even though I knew they had no clue.

Well, with school out for summer, I'm digging into my old bag of tricks to supplement my income. In other words, I'm making buttons. So please, let me share while you swim in the extreme excitement...

Ok, there you go. That's a button. I made it. I call it the Add button. BASF is using it in one of their internal applications...

Hey, wait! Where are you going? Come back here you silly goose. There's more!

This next one is called, cancel. I worked hard to pick out an icon that represented cancel.

Wow, Delete! One of my personal favorites!! Don't take this one lying down. It's no easy feat getting a red X to work on a green background.

Oh, and creating this little baby was a real treat as I got to incorporate the excel icon!

Then I got whacked in the arm with a puck while playing hockey.

And that is how I spent my summer vacation.

The New Pond

What would summer be without another digging event?? And this time it's no small feat.

Lots of dirt took lots of time to dig.

Don't let the photo fool you. This pond is big enough to do laps in!

Arial view of the 'swamp'. Next step: extend the turtle fence.

Close up of one of the ponds. I'm so happy with the lillypads. Though the turtles tend to eat them! Monet would be proud... or maybe he would laugh ;)

The Eva Perry Monster

This is a story passed on to me by anonymous but trustworthy sources about a 7 foot monster that appeared unexpectedly at the Eva Perry Library in Apex.

Though I haven't visited the library to see for myself, this photo, also passed on to me by anonymous but trustworthy sources, was taken of the monster in front of the library.

The following is an anonymous but trustworthy account supposedly written by the monster's creator

"I hope the people at the library have a good sense of humor. The monster is eating a book (paperback version of Narnia) so it seemed appropriate place to leave him. I image they will do one of three things:

1. get the maintenance men to drop him in recycling
2. think he is cute and bring him inside for display
3. call CSI and have me prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

Personally, i'm hoping for 2."

The following is a follow up by an anonymous but trustworthy monster sighting eye witness:

"The people at the library did not trash it. They kept it and it's now part of the Mock Prinz club. It's really cool, and the people there named it Ralfi. At first the head of our club thought it was a religious hate crime since the book inside was the chronicles of narnia the lion the witch and wardrobe. But afterwords they decide that that wasn't it. We're keeping it and not putting it in the recycling bin! We're going to feed all the bad books to it and hopefully he doesn't get a stomach ache!"
