No Fishing and Reading Monster on Display

The No fishing Monster and Reading Monster went on display tonight.

No Fishing will sit on the bench in front of the Halle Arts Center in Downtown Apex till october 21st (or sooner if it rains).

Reading Monster is displaying on a bench in front of the Apex Community Center or till the community center calls the cops and has me fined (they were looking at it pretty hard after it was dropped off).

Crawling South for the Winter

Last winter I lost a few turtles to the cold. The pond just isn't deep enough for the turtles to sufficiently hibernate. So this year I decided I would bring them inside for the winter. But what to put them in?

My first idea was to find a kiddy pool but it's rather hard to find a kiddy pool in October. So I went for the next best thing. A coat storage box.

You're suppose to put your coat in this plastic box and then wheel it under the bed. This seems to make sense until you realize, winter is coming. So why would you want to store your coat?? But they sell the coat storage boxes in October... but not the kiddy pool... strange.

The turtles don't seem to mind. They are happy to climb up on their rock to dry off.

Also in the tank are 4 catfish. We caught these at the beginning of the summer and they weren't even an inch long. Now, three months later they are close to 5 inches long. Next winter I'm going to need a bigger coat box.

Another 15 minutes of Fame

For the second time in my life, Mike Stangler at 850 the Buzz has informed a team I play on that we have won the Miller Lite Team of the Month.

The first time was way back when I was a Jackal.

I finally get my (second) 15 minutes and I'm surrounded by giant beer bottles (again).

There is also a radio interview but you'll have to listen to the show to hear it.

UPDATE:

The No Fishing Monster went on display tonight in front of the Halle Arts Center in Downtown Apex. It will sit on the bench for one week and is scheduled for pick up 10/21/08

Strings: Fishing

This piece is in the works but the goal is to get it finished and out on the street this week. Destination, the Apex Community Center where Fishing Monster will sit on a bench for a week (unless it rains...).

When complete, the arms (which still need to be attached) will hold onto a fishing pole. The "No Fishing" sign (not completed yet) will free stand next to the bench sitting monster. I also plan to sidewalk chalk a small fishing hole with maybe some goldfish swimming around.

This peice is based on the Reading Monster that sat on a bench downtown during the Apex Arts Festival.

Apex Art Festival Friday Night

visit the updated website

The night before the Second Annual Apex Salem Street Art Festival and I'm sneaking around, hanging hitchhikers and installing installations...

OK , maybe not sneaking so much. It took me an hour to hang it all.

Plus, Rock, the director of the Cultural Arts Center, stepped outside his office and asked me what the heck I was doing.

My response, "Just placing this 6 foot tall monster on this bench here in front of your art center... but wish I had some chalk..."

This only resulted in him saying, "Yeah, I got some chalk. You have ten minutes... My wife is waiting..."

So I took his chalk and made some foot prints coming out of the sewer...

In the end I'm my own worse critic. What works is the monster. Why? Because he is incorporated into the space. He becomes part of the urban environment.

What doesn't work? The mammoth, which I worked so hard on. Though I'm sure it would make an excellent gallery piece, it doesn't make for great street art. Ok, so art and learn.

Salem Street Art Festival

Oh yes, I am planning on participating in the Apex Arts Festival this Saturday. Not that I asked... or was invited... but is that what art is all about?? Hmmmm....
